Lolita Winters
How old are you? I'm older than you'll ever be. I've been dead a thousand years and lived only two or three. I don't mind telling you, my life was ended by your hand...
~What have you done? Is this what you wanted?~
Hey, you new ‘round here? Ah, well then, I’m more or less the dean around here. Pleased to meet’cha. Can I get your name?
“I am Lolita Winters. And no, my parents did not have a sick sense of humor. I was born before that book was published. I died before it too. If this existence counts as death. I don't know anymore.”
I’ll have a hard time forgetting that one. Tough on the speaker, eh? Haha. You don’t sound too old, what’s your age?
“I was...killed, turned, changed-whatever you want to call it, when I was twenty four. Of course, this was back in 1841, so...”
Sorry, I hate being blind sometimes. What’s your gender (please don’t hit me!)?
“I am a woman.”
I think I’m starting to get you a little better. Alright, what’s your physique and general appearance?
“Quoted from my case-number 222-, 'Height: five foot nine. Weight: 143 pounds. Physical state: mainly whole. Physical appearance: straight nose (watch for breakage-sign of violence), thin lips, high cheekbones. Long fingers, wears nails long (trim for safety). Small feet. Red hair worn long before cutting hair upon admittance. Signs of Ment-' oh, wait, you didn't ask for that.”
Cool. Any scars or tattoos? I’ve wanted one of a sparrow on my neck, but…”
“Case number 222-'If applicable, signs of self harm: cuts and bruises (self afflicted?: Supposed).' Once the...act of changing me happened, my body reset to it's state the moment I was born, without a scar or blemish, that is. So case number 222 isn't me anymore? It's been so long I don't know anymore.”
What kind of clothes do you like wearing?
“Of my own terms, anything. I have favored blue jeans as of late, and shirts I have begged from the male vampire I travel with. His shirts are for more comfortable.”
~You're walking alone from Heaven into Hell...~
I see, as it were. You seem fairly okay, what’s your personality like?
“Case number 222-'Subject displays bouts of anger when engaged in a conversation regarding life before admission, particularly surrounding brother. Possible inclination to perverse sexual attraction to brother. Prone to bouts of melancholy and hysteria.' In my own terms, I grow angry when my brother is mentioned or when mentioning my life and I am moody. I will admit that.”
How’d you get here, anyway?
“Madam Morstan brought me to the Bethlem Royal Hospital on February 2nd 1833. I was admitted at 16 years old for-I believe-melancholia dementia. My treatment is something I don't remember too well. I try to forget it. I turned twenty four in 1841, and one night in the autumn I was dying from one of the 'therapy sessions' and I woke up in a strange person's carriage. They saw I was awake, handed me a flask full of blood and told me to save it, stopped the carriage and left me to wander. I still don't know who they were. Since then I have wandered England, but eventually, I found others of my kind. One took me as his surrogate sister and we came to this place to find a new home for our coven, but there is a war. I have thought that I was an attempt at bringing back the dead before they figured another way.”
Do you have any family?
“I had a brother, Benjamin Winters. Six years my elder. He was the one who sent me to Bethlem Royal Hospital, even though it was Madam Morstan who actually took me there. I hate that man with a passion, and I take joy in the fact that he is dead. Aside from him there is Jonathan Barker. He is a vampire like myself, and we came here together. We are like siblings in our closeness and I am dependent on him for a lot of things.”
Alright, onto the important stuff. What’s your species?
“Vampire. Unfortunately. I never asked to be one! I wanted to die that night in the asylum!”
Ha, impressive. When and how did you get changed?
“No idea. I told you. I was dying in the autumn of 1841, and then I woke in a carriage and sent to wander. I am mostly certain that I was in the first shots in the dark to bring back the dead. Traditional methods, Jonathan supposes. He was changed three years before me. Not entirely similar situations though. Why would a man like him be in the asylum?”
Now that we’ve gotten that cleared up, do you belong to a tribe of some sort?
“I don't really have a coven. Well, not for a while. I used to belong to a tiny one in England-we called ourselves 'Blood Souls.' I was the second eldest vampire there, right after Jonathan. No one knows about us and we like it that way. Please don't tell anyone, Jonathan and I worry so much for them.”
What standing do you have?
“We didn't really have standings, but being the two eldest, Jonathan and I could be considered the coven priest and priestess I suppose. Leaders, anyway. We went ahead to see if this place was safe for our coven and are to send word once we have determined it to be so. We're still new so we're still feeling around.”
What is your fixed power element?
"I don't really know. When I was still with the coven we tentatively said it was earth, and since interacting with the creatures and people here, I think that it would be."
Final questions before you run off; where do your loyalties lie?
“I think I was changed by one of Fleur de Lis' minions, but I don't know. But that's not what you asked for. As of now, my loyalties lie with my tiny, tiny coven back in Yorkshire and with Jonathan. Though I suppose I could stand by death, but I could easily do the same with Fleur de Lis. I have to think about it.”
Anything else I should know?
“Don't call me Lo. I speak French fluently, and calling me Lo is a sick joke. Lo as in life. I'd probably start crying.”
